Here Am I. Send Me!

Brothers and sisters, there comes a moment in time, in each of our lives when faith must become more than something we profess. True faith is more than words that roll off our tongue. Those words must be accompanied by action. James 2:17, “…Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

There will be pivotal moment when we all must decide whether we will follow Jesus when obedience carries a cost.  Revelation 12:11, “…and they did not love their lives to the death.”

When Isaiah heard the Lord ask, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” he answered: “Here am I; send me.”

He offered himself before he knew everything the calling would require. That’s faith in action!

Today, that question confronts us.

Who will speak truth when a lie would win approval? Who will protect the vulnerable when looking away would be easier? Who will remain faithful when compromise offers comfort, acceptance, and an easier road?  Who will sit idly by and let evil prevail because the cost is perceived too high?  We, who claim to be Christians, have an obligation to take a stand for truth no matter of the personal cost.  We are not our own, we have been bought and paid for.  We belong to Him-the Lord of Hosts.

How will you answer the call?

We say we belong to the God and Jesus is our savior. We claim

God as our Heavenly Father the same person who called Isaiah and raised Jesus from the dead. The same God that says, His grace is sufficient for us. Is there any legitimate excuse to justify side stepping?

His truth is worthy of our courage. He said in Joshua 1:9, “Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Through the generations, faithful men and women have carried the gospel through persecution, hardship, and loss. Some preached before crowds. Others taught their children around a kitchen table. Some endured prison. Others quietly fed the hungry, cared for the sick, and refused to deny their Savior.

Their circumstances differed. Their allegiance was the same.

Jesus Christ is Lord.

Now we must live that confession in our own generation.

We cannot pass our responsibility to a pastor, a politician, or someone we imagine is better equipped. We must open our Bibles. We must pray. We must repent where we have wandered and obey what God has already made clear. We must cultivate a relationship with God and know His hand of protection is over us, wherever we go.

Before we confront dishonesty around us, we must surrender dishonesty within us. Before we demand courage from others, we must stop making excuses for our own silence.  If we are going to stand firm and proclaim the truth, we must know where our power and authority come from.  It comes from the King of kings, the Lord of lords, the creator of all things, the great “I am”!

Our Savior commanded us to love our enemies.

Our battle is not against flesh and blood. The people who oppose us still need the mercy we ourselves have received.

So let our courage be governed by love, our words tested by Scripture, and our conduct worthy of the name we bear.

To the weary believer: your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

To the one who has failed: repent and return. When you fall, get up!  There is grace and mercy in Christ.

To the one standing alone: seek faithful fellowship and remember that your Lord has not abandoned you.  Hebrews 13:5, He will never leave or forsake you.

To the one waiting for an easier time to obey: take a faithful step today. It does not get easier!

Tell the truth. Keep your promises. Guard your marriage. Teach your children. Stand beside the suffering. Refuse the profitable lie. Speak of Christ with conviction and compassion.  There is nothing more powerful than the truth.

We do not know every trial ahead. We do know the One who calls us. Jesus endured the cross, conquered the grave, and remains worthy of everything we can offer Him.

So when obedience costs us, may He find us steadfast.

When fear presses upon us, remember we have every reason to be courageous.

And when the call comes—wherever He sends us, whatever service He places before us—may our answer rise from a surrendered heart:

Here am I, Lord. Send me.
