When I’m Weak then I’m Strong!

How Does That Work

When I’m weak then I’m Strong! How in the world does that work? Talk about the ultimate catch 22. There are number of references in the Bible that mention this, below is one of them.

2 Corinthians 12:10

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

You may be scratching your head and asking, especially in America, how in your weakness are you strong? It seems to go against our culture. We’ve raised to be self sufficient, never to give up, never to quit, the sky’s the limit, win at all cost, pain is weakness leaving your body. Those are all good attributes but we have to realize that we can’t achieve very much under our own power, we need Jesus to accomplish great things. In today’s culture in the United State weakness is just that, weak, and it’s not acceptable.

But We Live In a Culture Where Weakness is Frowned Upon

As a Christian, how in the world do you live in a culture that weakness is frowned upon and how in the world are you strong because you are weak? As it turns out the answer is easy but implementing may not be so easy. As I stated earlier, we live in a culture were weakness is frowned upon and most have been raised to be strong in every circumstance. Men are told to buck up and take it like a man. Hmmm, what does the Bible say about that? Hint, that means look it up. It’s hard to submit, it’s hard to admit defeat, we all want to win. Submitting is something that we have been taught not to do. Even as Christians.

Submit to Jesus

However, until you fully submit to the Lord you’ll never really know Him. Once you realize it doesn’t matter how physically strong you are or think you are you are not strong until you wholeheartedly submit to the Lord. In your weakness, by submitting, you become strong because of the Lord. You allow the Lord to have power over your life, you give Him the reigns thus you become strong. You begin to realize how the Holy Spirit works in your life and you realize that the power that Jesus has is way more than you alone could even come close to. So yes, to be strong you first you need to be weak. As hard as it seems, you must submit to the Lord Jesus Christ. You must operate under His power, not that of your own. I know it’s tough for some of you to admit it, but it’s the correct answer.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.

Psalms 37:5

Today, as you go along and come across a challenge, remember in your weakness, your willingness to submit to Jesus you become strong and courteous able to stand firm on the truth and are able to bring glory to God.

Amen!
