Forgotten Promises Resurrected, Luke 11:9-10

Luke 11:9-10

9 “And I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened”.

I’m going to start off with, “WOW, JUST WOW!"

Let me be straight forward with you, I’m 58 years old, I’ve been a Christian most of my life to the point I remember accompanying my Grandmother to church at the age of 4.  I’ve been reading the Bible since I could read, one would think I should have it memorized by now. However, it's quite the opposite and it never ceases to amaze how my Bible speaks to me today in ways it never has before. I love to read and learn and lately, 12 months or so, I’ve been hearing or seeing the name Charles Spurgeon on a regular basis.  So much so that I decide to learn more about him.  What I can tell you so far is that he definitely loved the Lord and was not shy about it.  He was born in 1834 and actually gave his first sermon to a congregation at only age 16.  By any standard, I find that incredible. Especially by today’s standard where we still want to hold our child’s hand to cross the street at 16.  OK, I may be exaggerating a little, but not much.  As I started reading the book, “The Power in Prayer” by Charles Spurgeon, I found that Charles Spurgeon had an understanding of the Bible, faith, supernatural power and how it relates to Christianity that far outpaces the understanding of most people today.

Authority we have because of Jesus' Authority

Mr. Spurgeon, in brief, dissected the verses found in Luke 11:9-10 in the following way:  Take Jesus' words, “I say to you.” “I” —your Teacher, your Master, your Lord, your Savior, and your God—“I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; seek , and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”  Simply put, our master’s argument declaration is all the argument we need.  “I say to you” is our logic.  We know that Jesus cannot err; He cannot lie; so when He says. “I say to you” that is final and there is no debate.  Have you ever thought of the promises Jesus gave to us in this light? Furthermore, when you realize the promises came straight from God, the creator of the Heavens and the Earth, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords does it change how you relate to the promise? Another question you may want to reflect on, and remember it's always self reflection and for personal growth, "How strong is my faith and do my actions match my words?"

So, how does this affect each one of us?

As we self reflect on where we stand with this promise as well as all the promises we gave been given we must also keep in mind our adversary is hard at work.  I know there are a lot of distractions, a lot of temptations, a lot of deceptions and a lot of misquoted scripture that can take us off the correct path if we are not careful.  I think today, more than ever, that we, as Christians, need to recognize and realize the battle to separate us from God is real.  It is of the utmost importance that we are our own critics in evaluating where we stand on each promise we have been given and look to God for support and direction always.   Maybe, one question you need to ask yourself, “How familiar am I of the promises given to me in the Bible”?  Let’s be brutally honest here, if you don’t know the promises Jesus gave you, how do you expect to fulfill your God given purpose to the full extent? How can you say you have power and authority through Jesus if you'e not aware of the power and authority He has given to you? Have you thought about this before. After all God warned us in Hosea 4:6 that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...

I’m going to close with this prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, please let each and every Christian realize the importance of knowing you and your promises.   Let them realize how important each one of them are to your Devine mission and let them wholeheartedly know that we, each of us, are here to glorify you and help expand the kingdom of Heaven and to unlock our full potential, knowledge is power. I pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen

May you always walk in the Truth!
