Do You Know what is an Abomination to God?

What Have You Overlooked?

I’ve been a Christian for a long time and been reading the Bible pretty much since I could read. Have you ever knew of a word and had a good idea what it meant, but you never really delved into it. I have many of those words and the word I’m going to talk about today is, “Abomination”. I’ve known for a long time if something is an abomination it’s not good. I’ve read the word abomination in the Bible many times and when taken in context it’s really not good. But I never took the time to really delve into this word and how it used to paint a picture in our minds how God may feel and/or think about certain things.
Abomination???
The reason I want to really identify the meaning of this word is because of conversations I’ve been involved in and people truly believe that they are good people. Don’t get me wrong here, when I refer to “good people” they think they are on their way to Heaven someday because they a “good”. It reminds me of Hosea 4:6 where God says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for me; because you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children”. However, those "good" people don't know Jesus and He doesn't know them. They have never repented of their sins and asked Jesus into their life. What they don't realize is that non of us, meaning nobody, is good enough to enter the gates of heaven without Jesus. He is the only way and He took the punishment for our sins. We only need to acknowledge that He died the cross and rose three days later and repent of our sins.
What is Your Relationship Like?
Many people, unfortunately don’t have a relationship with God, they don’t know Jesus, and they are not baptized by Holy Spirit. Hence they also don’t know promises God has given us, they don’t know the commandments we have been given and in general they have a worldly view.
The Wrath of God, Really?

On the other hand, there are the Christians that believe since we have a loving God they don’t have to worry about His wrath so they don’t give it a second thought. For these people I want to remind them of a few verses and let them self reflect on how they relate to what God’s Word has to say. Take a look at Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Or, how about Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever”. The next few verses that come to mind at Matthew 5:17-19, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven”.
This is New Testament Time...
I’ve heard things are more lax now that we are in the New Testament time. That we are saved by God’s grace and are no longer under the law. I agree, we are saved through our faith and God’s grace but I would like to refer you back to God is the same yesterday, today and forever. In addition , Paul said it well in Romans 6:1-2, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sun that grace May abound? Certainly not! How shall e who died to sin live any in it”? God wants a relationship with you, He loves you and He desires your love. He gave you free will because He wants you to choose to love Him. At the same time, it’s easy to use our free will to glorify ourselves and then thank God for being able to that. However, were are not out on this earth to glorify ourselves but to glorify God.
Back to abomination
It’s important to know what is an abomination to God. If these abominations happen to be part of your life, it would be wise to evaluate life, talk to God and ask for guidance, repent if necessary and continue to become the man or woman God created you to be.
Below are a few definitions of abomination and a list of verses that tell us what God views as an abomination:
Greek/Hebrew definition of Abomination:
Something morally disgusting
1828 Webster’s Dictionary definition of:
ABOMINA'TION, noun
1. Extreme hatred; detestation.
2. The object of detestation, a common signification in scripture. The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord. Proverbs 15:8.
3. Hence, defilement, pollution, in a physical sense, or evil doctrines and practices, which are moral defilements, idols and idolatry, are called abominations. The Jews were an abomination to the Egyptians; and the sacred animals of the Egyptians were an abomination to the Jews. The Roman army is called the abomination of desolation. Matthew 24:15.
